Mentor Profile

Brisbane based jumps coach with 15 plus years coaching experience, from Little Athletics and schools through to athletes competing in Australian colours. Jane focuses on technical development, athlete awareness and mindset, with a strong interest in supporting new coaches and helping athletes and coaches balance training, competition and life commitments.

Why I want to mentor

I am excited to help new coaches through their early stages of coaching. I would have loved to have had access to a mentor to help when I first started coaching, someone to talk to, ask questions, gaining information both general and specific for the event.

With my experience of coaching 15 years now, from Little Athletics to my first athlete in Australia colours last year, I am used to tailoring my sessions to the different levels of my athletes and their skill levels. I really enjoy working with other coaches, of all skill levels. Hearing their other perspectives on different sessions, jumps, techniques and drills fascinates me. And I love how sometimes the simplest thing or way of framing a drill can make such a difference.

Coaching focus and philosophy

I focus on technique, awareness in what the athlete is doing to be able to adapt in competition as well as in training, and mindset, how you train, compete and belief in themselves. It can be challenging managing different athletes and their loads, competition and balancing their other commitments, school, university and other sports. I try to be aware and help them manage, and to allow them to reflect and enjoy the process of an amazing sport.

My squad
  • High performance athletes, including six hoping to qualify for Oceania and U20 World Championships, 2026
  • Olympic heptathlete, high jump focus
  • Senior squad, 10 athletes aged 15 to 28, including multi event athletes for high jump
  • Junior squad, 15 athletes
Supporting athletes into coaching

I am currently helping some of my senior athletes to become coaches. Two have done their Level 2 this year and are working at schools while at university supporting themselves. I have a further three hoping to do it these holidays. I get them to help coach my junior squads to gain valuable experience coaching and managing athletes through a whole session, and work with other coaches for the other disciplines of athletics and knowledge.
