Exercise 1: The Take Off Position
Key Coaching Points
Take off should be from a full stretched arm length from the near upright.
The planted foot should be angled at ~30 degrees to the centre of the mat.
Exercise 2: Setting the Run Up
Key Points
Starting from the line of the mat, walk out 6-10 steps in line with the bar.
Turn 90 degrees and walk half the number of steps.
e.g. if you walked 6 steps out, walk 3 steps after turning 90 degrees.
Mark the final point as the starting position.
Exercise 3: Bar Clearance from a Short Run Up
Key Points
Planted foot should be flat (i.e. not on heel or toes).
Drive the knee up high on take off.
Remain tall on landing.
Exercise 4: Bar Clearance from a Full Approach
Key Points
Accelerate into the bar - the final three strides should be the fastest
Encourage an active foot plant.
