Kerry Schreiber
Middle distance coach focused on connection, adaptability, and long term development. Kerry supports athletes and coaches to progress with confidence, balance, and purpose, with experience across track, cross country, road, and trail settings, and a strong interest in sustainable coaching practices that respect real life demands.
Why I want to be involved in the mentoring program
I want to be involved in the mentoring program because I value the role that mentoring plays in shared learning environments and engaging in energised meaningful conversations about coaching life, coaching conversations and coaching experiences. My own coaching journey has been shaped by the guidance of others, often through informal mentoring and peer support, and I see real value in creating space for coaches to reflect, problem solve and grow. I am passionate about contributing to the sport in a way that supports coaches at different stages of their development.
What I can offer the mentees
I offer practical, experience based support. I have coached athletes across middle distance, cross country, and
endurance pathways, from school aged runners through to national level athletes, and I particularly enjoy working
with emerging athletes who are balancing study, work, and performance.
I have strong experience supporting athletes through university pathways and periods where flexibility, progression,
and adaptability are essential. I am comfortable working with mixed ability groups and take pride in creating sessions
where athletes of different levels can train together while still feeling challenged, supported, and connected to the
purpose of the session. I am also currently working with a multi class para athlete, T37, which has reinforced the
importance of individualisation within shared training environments.
My coaching approach is grounded in keeping things realistic and sustainable. Having balanced high level training, work
in education, and family life, I understand the need for coaching approaches that respect life demands as much as
performance goals. I aim to support mentees in developing coaching practices that are flexible, effective, and
sustainable over time.
What I would like to gain from participating in the program
Mentoring is a two way process, and I value the opportunity to continue learning through the experiences and perspectives of other coaches. I enjoy being challenged, staying curious, and contributing to a connected coaching community that strengthens athletics, and not just in middle and distance environments.

Coaching experience
My coaching experience spans track, cross country, road, and trail environments. I have coached athletes progressing through school, club, and representative pathways, including athletes who have gone on to compete at national and international levels.
Athletic background
I am a former Australian representative in road running, including selection for Ekiden relay teams in Japan, as well as national road running titles and marathon competition. My pathway into athletics was unconventional. I began running in Year 12 with no prior running background, transitioning from a strong foundation in ballet and dance. Progressing quickly into national representation shaped my appreciation for transferable skills, late entry into sport, and patient athlete development.
