Mentor Profile

Middle distance coach based in Toowoomba with experience supporting athletes at major championships, including Australian team coach roles and personal coach roles at World Championships and Commonwealth Games. Jody values mentoring as a way to give back to the sport, build the coaching community, and learn alongside mentees in a supportive, down to earth way.

Why I want to be a mentor

Being able to give something back to the sport I love and help it to grow and evolve is a big reason for me to be a part of this mentoring programme. I believe we all have something to offer each other and I hope to learn just as much from my mentees as they do from me, and we form a friendship so I have another friendly face to spot at the next track meet. I know being mentored myself by two amazing mentors has been a huge benefit.

Qualifications
Level 3 Middle Distance, Australian Athletics coach
Occupation
  • Business owner, trade industry
  • Farmer
  • Mum of two adult children
Current squad

I started out only wanting a small squad but over time I have come to realise that with a bigger squad there is a huge advantage of everyone having someone of their own standard to run and train with. I currently have just over 50 athletes in my squad.

Coaching roles

I have been lucky enough to experience being an Australian Team Coach for the Open Women at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships and the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, where I looked after four distance and steeple athletes. I have also been a personal coach at the 2018 World Under 20s in Finland, the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, and the 2022 Commonwealth Games. I am only too happy to pass on what I have learnt from these experiences and hope to also learn just as much from the people I mentor, as we all have plenty to offer.
